Rules and Conditions for Sponsorship

Who can apply for Sponsorship
Young people in The Gambia with a maximum age of 26, who are about to finish their Senior Secondary school and upwards, and who are strongly motivated and ambitious to get well educated and want to build a good future for themselves and for The Gambia.

How to become a sponsored student
1. Five intake questions have to be answered after the first contact by e-mail.
    A first selection will be made based on the responses of the intake questions.
2. Application Form, Educational Background Form and Working Experience Form
    have to be filled in.
3. Write a motivation letter of at least 200 words.
    The motivation letter plays a very important role in selecting new sponsored students.
4. Write a detailed study plan: which study, start and end date, content of the study,
     which school/university and all other relavant data concerning the study.
5. Write a financial plan: what are the complete costs of the study and all other additional cost,
    what is paid by yourself or your family.
6. Send the Forms and the Motivation Letter and a copy of a valid ID with photo to
    Foundation Dem Daradje (by e-mail). A second selection will be made.
7. An interview will be planned in Brikama, held by two representatives of Dem Daradje.
    The interview is meant to get to know each other, to check the validity of the information
    and to talk about study, future plans, ambitions and motivation.
    During the interview all study documents and an valid ID need to be shown.
8. After the interview, a final decision will be made by the Board of Dem Daradje.
    The outcome of the interview will be notified to the student by e-mail as soon as possible.
9. After passing the selection, the student will be informed about all relevant
    practical matters concerning the sponsorship.

Note: Applicant must fill in all forms and communicate with Dem Daradje personally by e-mail.


What decisions are taken when accepted for Sponsorship
Student will be sponsored for at least one year. Amount of sponsor fee depends on type of study.

Rules for sponsored students
1. The student must have an e-mail account and is responsible for keeping this e-mail account
    active in order to communicate with Foundation Dem Daradje.
2. The student must have a bank account and is responsible for keeping the bank account valid.
    All details of the bank account (IBAN, account holder name, account number, name of bank)
    must be communicated and always kept up to date with Dem Daradje.
    Preferred bank office in The Gambia is GTB.
3. The sponsor money is solely meant for expenses related to education or study of the student
    as described on this form. Expenses related to education or studies
    are e.g. school fees, costs of exams, books, school supplies and transport costs.
    The sponsor money is a fixed amount. The height of the sponsor money
    will not be changed during the study year.
    The sponsor money is a supplement to the costs for education or study
    and is not meant as a complete coverage of all costs that might be encountered.
4. The student must send the following information to Dem Daradje:

  Once a year: (at latest september 1st. or immediately after school/study year is finished)
  • school/study report with all relevant information about grade/level of study,
     type of study and study results.
  • All information must clearly show the name of the student and name of school/university.
  • A declaration that the student wishes to continue the sponsorship

  Immediately:
  • All relevant information when such has changed, as described on the Application Form.
    For example home address, e-mail address, telephone number, bank account, type of study, etc.

What is Dem Daradje doing with information sent in by the student
After Dem Daradje has received the reports from the student, a decision will be taken on continuation of the sponsorship.
The evaluation will be made with regard to efforts, results and motivation of the student.
When necessary, an interview will be held with the student.

Continuation of the sponsorship
The sponsorship will only be continued after one year if:
• All information as meant above has been received by Dem Daradje
• Study results are sufficient, progress has been made and student is very motivated
• Financial circumstances of the student make it necessary to be sponsored
• Student is still at school or follows a study during the entire period of sponsorship
• Sponsor money is spent for study related expenses only
• Student wishes to continue the study

How is the sponsor money paid to the student
Foundation Dem Daradje will pay the amount of sponsor money once a year in Gambian Dalasis to the bank account of the student.
